Tip Of The Month, June
2008
Hopefully, you have practiced your game a little more evenly
over the last month {last months "tip"}. So, as promised, this
month we will talk about how to practice putting. Without
getting into technique {we have done this in a "Tip of the Month"
before}, we will talk about some guides on how to practice
putting.
First,
always aim your putter head first, as in any shot.
Second,
set yourself to the putter head.
Third,
swing back {1}, through {2}, and hold your finish position. {I did
get a little into technique, didn't I?}
Fourth,
ALWAYS, read each and every putt you hit; even if not
especially on the putting green. You can leave out the
two footers and in. The more putts you read and get feedback
the better at reading greens you will become. This means
you will start more putts on line; giving your putts a better chance
of going in.
Fifth, As much as I do not like to say
"don't", "do not" look from your ball directly to the hole, unless
it is a dead straight putt. If there is any break, follow the
line of the break with your eyes. This takes discipline and
practice, but most breaking putts are missed on the low side of
the hole, because you will tend to stroke your ball where you look
and if you are looking straight at the hole on a breaking putt you
will tend to miss
low.
As always, thank you for your
feedback and I look forward to hearing from you. If you have a
question you would like for me to address, please feel free to email
it.
